Hunting Rights

Protecting our right to hunt

As a hunter, we’ll plan and prepare long before hunting season arrives. We may scout out an area or make small talk with friends to help find that ever elusive elk. We always have to prepare if we want to be successful.

One thing we always have to be aware of are Hunting Rules and Regulations for the areas where we’ll be hunting. So please learn the rules and follow them. When you’re not sure about something ask a game warden to avoid any problems.

Americans have had a long history of being able to hunt and fish. But it seems there are some who don’t believe we should have those rights. We respect meaningful discourse and encourage discussion. But sadly, some people believe we shouldn’t be allowed to hunt or fish. So In response, several states seek to amend their constitutions, giving their citizens the rights to hunt, fish and harvest wildlife responsibly. Now, it’s important that we are responsible hunters and we respect our natural resources in order to continue to enjoy the rights afforded to us.

We must also however, be vigilante and stand against those anti-hunting groups who mislead the public or use social pressure and deception in an attempt to deny us our rights.

In 2004 Montana enacted legislation to protect our rights to hunt, trap and fish. And there are currently 23 states with provisions to protect hunting and fishing rights.

Although this is a good start, there is no guarantee it will last. We have to keep fighting and stand up for the future of our children and grandchildren.
